Ghordes, in western Turkey, is so central to Anatolian weaving that it gave its name to the knot itself — the symmetrical "Ghordes knot" used across Turkey and much of the weaving world. The town is most famous for its prayer rugs: a columned niche, or mihrab, framed by rich, multi-banded borders and often a hanging lamp, in soft, well-aged colour.
Antique Ghordes prayer rugs are among the most collectible of all Turkish weaves, valued for their fine borders and refined design.
