A kilim is a flatwoven rug with no pile, where the pattern is made by interweaving the coloured threads tightly through the rug itself. The result is a lighter, reversible rug, usually with bold geometric designs and strong, clear colour. Kilims are woven right across the rug-making world — Turkey, Persia, the Caucasus, the Balkans and Central Asia — and each region has its own patterns and palette.
Their graphic simplicity, light weight and everyday toughness make kilims a designer favourite, on the floor, layered, or hung on a wall.
