Konya sits at the heart of central Anatolia, in a region that has been weaving for longer than almost anywhere on earth — some of the very oldest surviving pile carpets, the thirteenth-century Seljuk fragments, were found near here. That deep history shows in Konya rugs, which keep an archaic, tribal character: bold, simple designs, soft mellow colour and a warm, honeyed palette from local wool and natural dyes.
For collectors of village and nomadic weaving, Konya rugs offer some of the most authentic and characterful Anatolian work.
