Sivas rugs come from the high plateau city of Sivas in central Anatolia, where a prison workshop and local weavers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries produced some of Turkey's more refined carpets. Unusually for Anatolia, Sivas weavers looked to Persian models, so their rugs often carry elegant medallion and floral designs drawn more finely than the bold village weaves around them.
The result is a distinctive middle ground: a Turkish rug with Persian polish, in soft, sophisticated colour that suits formal and transitional rooms.
