Dhurries are India's flatweave: lightweight, reversible rugs traditionally woven in cotton (and sometimes wool) with clean striped, geometric and pictorial designs. They have been made across India for centuries — for the home, for jails and palaces, and in vast "gallery" sizes for Mughal courts — and antique cotton dhurries have a wonderful faded, graphic quality.
Casual, hard-wearing and easy to layer, they belong to the wider flatweave and kilim family and are perfect where a pile rug would be too heavy or too formal.
