Kuba rugs come from the north-eastern Caucasus, in present-day Azerbaijan, an area that produced some of the finest and most varied Caucasian weaving. Compared with the bold Kazak, a Kuba is finer and flatter, with dense, small-scale geometric designs — stars, stylised flowers, dragons and the famous "Perepedil" ram's-horn motif — in rich, dark colour.
They are collectors' rugs with a jewel-like quality, and their tighter weave suits them to display and lower-traffic use.
