Moroccan kilims are the flat-woven side of Berber weaving. Where a Beni Ourain is plush and heavy, a Moroccan kilim is light, thin and reversible — and the Berber tradition has a distinctive habit of mixing techniques within a single piece, so many combine flat-woven bands with areas of raised pile, sequins and embroidery.
Woven across the Atlas and the south, in bright or earthy colour, they are perfect for layering over a larger rug or a hard floor, and for rooms where a plush pile would be too heavy. They belong to the wider flatweave and kilim family.
